Optical Sensing is a technique based on cameras. In the border of the overlay are camera's that register the movements of the pen or finger by touching the glass. Withe the right software you can make it Multi-Touch so you will be able to use multiple fingers or pens. This technique is very accurate and fast. And that makes it perfect to use in schools, boardingrooms and trainingfacilities !

Infrared:

Infrared is a techniquw based on a area with transmitters on the corners. If the 'beam' is interupted by a finger or pen this will be registerd by the receiver. Downside is that this is way slower. Besides that this technique is less accurate with large displays.
